Nerdy .
So I’ve been meaning to blog about Fibromyalgia (FM) and Sleep Apnea (SA) but I couldn’t find a good way to do it, so I’m just going to sneak it in with my life updates post
Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event.
Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than are men. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.
While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of medications can help control symptoms. Exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures also may help.

I was diagnosed with FM in late 2005 or early 2006, I can’t remember the exact date as they thought it was arthritis first so I had to go for a bunch of tests for that and had to see a Rheumatologist for confirmation. Both my GP and the Rheumatologist confirmed that I didn’t have arthritis, but I had FM…and then proceeded to give me prescriptions for anti-inflammatory drugs. I had to switch drugs every 2 weeks because I was getting ALL the side effects and despite the pain going down I wasn’t having any other good results from them. One made me not know when I had to pee…so I had to force myself to go to the bathroom every 2 hours or so, which wasn’t pleasant!
The universal symptom of fibromyalgia is pain. As mentioned earlier, the pain in fibromyalgia is not caused by tissue inflammation. Instead, these patients seem to have an increased sensitivity to many different sensory stimuli and an unusually low pain threshold. Minor sensory stimuli that ordinarily would not cause pain in individuals can cause disabling, sometimes severe pain in patients with fibromyalgia. The body pain of fibromyalgia can be aggravated by noise, weather change, and emotional stress.
The pain of fibromyalgia is generally widespread, involving both sides of the body. Pain usually affects the neck, buttocks, shoulders, arms, the upper back, and the chest. “Tender points” are localized areas of the body that are tender to light touch. Fibromyalgia tender points, or pressure points, are commonly found around the elbows, shoulders, knees, hips, back of the head, and the sides of the breastbone and are typical signs of fibromyalgia.

I have all the tender points now, I started out with the elbows, knees, hips, and breastbone. Now I have all of them
Which I think is mostly because I’ve gained so much weight since being diagnosed. All the anti-inflammatory drugs and their side effects made me not leave my house very often, and a lot made me just lay on the couch spaced out, and it all made me depressed and I’m a depressed eater sooo hence the weight gain!
I’m supposed to be watching my diet, exercising and what not but it’s super hard because I’ve been tired all the time. We thought it was just my FM and depression making me tired so my GP started me on a new medication which is freaking amazing, but still didn’t help the sleep issue. So my GP sent me for a bunch of sleep tests, which included a blood test & 2 sleep therapy tests (side note: you never want this done…tubes up the nose while you sleep SUCKS) he thought that maybe the dosage was too high on my medications but when the tests came back, it wasn’t the medications at all. I have mild Sleep Apnea.
Sleep apnea occurs in two main types:
- Obstructive sleep apnea, the more common form that occurs when throat muscles relax
- Central sleep apnea, which occurs when your brain doesn’t send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing
Additionally, some people have complex sleep apnea, which is a combination of both.

I don’t have to use a fancy machine to sleep, I just have to change my diet, sleep times, exercise habbits, etc. The main thing that’s going to kill me is cutting down on drinking Coke…but I know I can do it, I’ve done it before…it’s just hard! I did cut out the French Vanilla coffee from my life…with the exception of a Tim Hortons run here and there. I have started drinking tea and hot chocolate instead. I just need to start drinking iced tea instead of Coke! I was debating making a diet blog but I don’t know if I will, and I don’t really want to post stuff like that on here because no one wants to know what I ate :P
Now for some news other than medical! I have quit my WoW guild! I got so fed up on Sunday night of all the drama and what really tipped me over the edge was being blamed for something I didn’t say or do so I just said screw it I’m done. It feels so freeing not having to raid tonight! Not having to deal with all the drama, the whiners, the loot whores, the afkers that take 10 minutes to pee.
I know I’m weird, but hey, I’m a gamer
My office is moving across the hall starting this week so life is going to get even busier than it has been in the past few weeks, and thank goodness I gave my 2 weeks notice to my other job :P I don’t think I could handle it all right now! I did do a HUGE last shop on Friday night though
I had money saved up for it though. I bought some new sweaters, tanks, capri yoga pants, and of course underwear :P I always stock up on that whenever I shop cause you always need underwear! hahaha.
Well this is a super long post
Thanks to those who stuck it out and read it all! I promise my next blog post will be about something happier and awesome
Happy .
Sleepy .

so I was kind of in shock and my body’s defense to anything like this is sleep so I ended up sleeping alot Friday before my shift that night and almost all day yesterday
and then I had the worst sleep ever last night because my legs were freezing and no matter what I did I could not warm them up! I ended up having a shower at 5am and that seemed to help. I hope I don’t have that tonight!
